We all know the way in which we receive and absorb information has changed rapidly during the last few years, and that it is often the younger generation that grasp this changing world way before we do, so as we trundled down to the Portsmouth Guildhall last week for the venue’s Creative Choices Day we should have expected that we would be leaving probably a lot more enlightened then those we were there to pass our knowledge onto.

Portsmouth Guildhall is a venue we work very closely with and when they told us about the work they are involved in with the young people in the area we were very keen to get involved.  For the Creative Choices Day last week Sarah Slater (Director – Music) and our Head of Social Marketing Camille Ainsworth took a number of workshops with young people ranging from years 9 and 10 to college students about how we use social media and digital marketing to promote the events we sell for.  From Facebook through to PPC (Pay Per Click) we gave our top tips and went through examples of how we put this into practice. Then it was down to those participating to come up with a campaign for one of their favourite artists.  The ideas were so creative that it makes you feel that if you had a group of them sat in your office every week for the team meetings some of our campaigns would look very different.  They also gave us a unique insight into where we should be focusing our time and efforts for the artists they are fans of, there was one channel we hardly use and that we will definitely be exploring, so keep your eyes peeled.

Hayley Reay – Learning and Participation Manager for Portsmouth Guildhall said ‘It was really beneficial having Ticketmaster deliver workshops in social media and marketing at our Creative Choices Day on the 25th November 2015. Not only was it fun and engaging, but it was a chance for the learners to witness how some of their favourite artists were marketed, whilst providing them with an understanding about careers that are available in that side of the industry, that they wouldn’t have otherwise thought about. Feedback from both students and teachers was great, with a lot of the students claiming that this workshop was the best part of the day. Creative and Cultural Skills were also impressed and would like to invite Ticketmaster to sign up to their network as supporters, so that they could become involved with future educational events.’

We loved this day and being involved in a project which is so important, it was very rewarding to be part of.  The following week our Artist Relations Development Manager, John Talbot headed back to the Guildhall for their Industry Day.  This day focused on a slightly older student demographic and involved John being part of a panel on the live events and music industry and the roles involved in making it all happen.  Hopefully, all these events went some way into inspiring a new generation and new ideas into the industry we all love so much.

The Ticketmaster team are always interested in getting involved in projects both for young people and the industry as a whole, recent examples include the Portsmouth Guildhall Days plus a number of events with our technology and development team with coding workshops and sessions at silicone roundabout.  If there is an event, workshop, panel you would like to discuss please do get in touch with the team at [email protected] and we can always pass your request onto the relevant department.
