Now in its 14th year, the event is being held on 27 – 28 May at Burton Constable Hall in Hull and features Katy Perry, Little Mix, Stormzy and Kings of Leon as headliners.

Ticketmaster handled the booking process on behalf of the BBC. Tickets, which were free and limited to two per person, were available through the Radio 1 website at 09:10 – and by 10:00 had sold out.

People who got tickets shared their excitement on Twitter.

With huge demand for these must-have tickets, our team worked closely with the BBC to ensure a seamless onsale and customer experience during the purchase process. We will be deploying our paperless technology again onsite at the event in May, and are thoroughly looking forward to being in Hull during its tenure as the UK City of Culture.

The remaining tickets will be available through various competitions run by Radio 1. People who don’t get tickets will be able to watch and listen to the event via BBC Radio 1, BBC iPlayer and Radio 1’s website. Details about the competitions will be announced on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show on 18 April, with the full line-up for Radio 1’s Big Weekend being revealed on 19 April.
