Ticketmaster Experience also utilises Preoday software to enable venues to sell food and drink through their own branded apps. It greatly reduces queues and improves the customer experience.

Below are some of the theatres that have recently launched pre-ordering with Preoday.

HQ Theatres & Hospitality

HQ Theatres & Hospitality is introducing in-seat ordering to the Cliffs Pavilion (shown above) theatre in Southend-on-Sea and will let patrons pre-order refreshments online, to collect during the show interval, at its 11 other UK venues. Part of the Qdos Entertainment Group, one of the largest, broad-based entertainment groups in Europe, the technology rollout fits with its vision to be the UK’s premier provider of live entertainment and hospitality.

Mark Hollington, Hospitality Director at HQ Theatres & Hospitality, said, “At HQ we’re passionate about improving the experience for customers visiting our venues. We firmly believe that every aspect of our guests’ visit should be a pleasure – and like other businesses, we want to make it as easy as possible for them to transact with us. Serving upwards of a thousand customers within a 20-minute interval would be a challenge for any business, but we know queuing for refreshments at the interval detracts from the magic of the overall experience.”

The 12 HQ Theatres venues are:

  • Wycombe Swan Theatre – High Wycombe (shown above)
  • Wyvern Theatre – Swindon
  • Cliffs Pavilion – Southend-on-Sea
  • Palace Theatre – Westcliff-on-Sea
  • Orchard Theatre – Dartford
  • Beck Theatre – Hayes
  • White Rock Theatre – Hastings
  • G Live – Guildford
  • Watford Colosseum – Watford
  • Crewe Lyceum Theatre – Crewe
  • Swindon Arts Centre – Swindon
  • Churchill Theatre – Bromley

National Theatre

London’s Royal National Theatre (shown below) has launched an online and mobile ordering app for the 759,205 annual visitors to its South Bank home. The theatre’s new app and web portal enables ticket-holders to order and pay for refreshments in advance of their visit, streamlining their theatre experience.

Welcoming audiences in to see more than 30 shows a year, from re-imagined classics to modern masterpieces and new works by contemporary writers, queues for pre-show and interval drinks are a feature in all busy theatres. The new platforms recently adopted by the NT make a trip to the theatre as effortless and enjoyable as possible by letting users skip the queue entirely to order pre-show or interval refreshments via an app or online ordering portal.

Visitors simply select the show and date of their visit and make their choice of drinks and snacks, decide what time they want to collect them and pay using a bank card. A unique collection code is sent to the guest to show upon collection of the drinks and snacks.

Neil Brooke, Head of Catering Operations at the National Theatre said, “At the National Theatre we are and the latest generation of theatre-goers are increasingly tech-savvy, organised and time efficient. By introducing this new app we are offering audiences the opportunity to maximise their time and enjoyment in the theatre.”

Sadler’s Wells

Sadler’s Wells has unveiled a new mobile and online ordering platform for the over half a million visitors to its theatres every year. Audience members at the world-leading dance house can now place orders and pay for interval refreshments well in advance of their visit, thereby avoiding queues at busy shows.

The first event at the theatre to accept online and mobile orders was Voices of the Amazon, a new dance musical set in the heart of the rainforest that ran in early July. The app for pre-orders is available to download now on Google Play and Apple. Orders can also be made through the Sadler’s Wells website.

Zuzana Galikova, Head of Catering & Events at Sadler’s Wells, said, “The variety of our artistic programme enables us to attract large audiences. We aim to cater for the tastes of all our audiences, and the introduction of our new mobile and online ordering service is part of our ongoing commitment to enhance the customer experience.”
