Nine teams from all across the business battled it out Game of Thrones-style to leave one team wearing the crown, vacated by last year’s winners the Sales team who were ravaged by absence and injury this time out. Each team, some in matching kit and branded T-shirts, had two opportunities to hit (or mostly swing and miss) and run (then run back to where meant to be) their way to glory.

As the afternoon progressed and the picnics became boozier and the distance from bowler to hitter got shorter, all teams managed to display their skills in fielding being on the right pitch at the right time and for the most part avoiding injury. A special mention should go to TM’s own MV(A)P who in his first outing onto the field produced the catch of the day with a brilliant one handed effort.

As the sun began to set and the desire to head to the pub increased, the two teams with the cumulative best score advanced to a winner-take-all final, TicketWeb and one of the Finance teams. The favourites, TicketWeb, took to the home plate first but were undone by some fine fielding, dubious umpiring and stage fright as they failed to register a single score, allowing Finance to saunter their way to victory in record time. As the celebrations begun for the winners, everyone else packed up their mess to leave the field in the immaculate condition we found it in and headed off into the night to toast their performance or drown their sorrows.

A big thank you to this year’s organisers who did a sturdy in job in the absence of TM’s own Minister of Fun, Nick Griffith, who will no doubt be back next year to reclaim victory.
