In October 2017, the Too Good at Goodbyes star and his team announced in conjunction with Ticketmaster Artist Services that fans who pre-ordered his new album, the follow-up to his 7x platinum debut In the Lonely Hour, from the official Sam Smith store would be granted exclusive 48-hour presale ticket access to the artist’s upcoming UK and European arena shows.

Ticketmaster International, label Capitol Records, talent agency CAA, promoter SJM Concerts and various EU promoters, as well as the ecommerce team at Universal Music Group, all worked closely on an announcement launching on Friday 20 October 2017, a week ahead of the general onsale date for the tour. The promotion ran across all the artist’s channels to drive awareness and pre-order purchase of the album. Ticketmaster’s marketing included a dedicated eshot to all Sam Smith fans in our customer database and high-profile coverage across the Ticketmaster site and socials. Once the pre-order deadline hit, Capitol and Universal Music contacted all successful customers with an exclusive access code, generated by Ticketmaster, allowing fans to purchase a maximum of four tickets each to any of the Grammy Award winner’s shows. All events were hidden behind passcodes and listed on a fan-friendly landing page branded with Sam’s image and assets allowing customers to buy with confidence tickets to any of his 24 international dates.

The campaign successfully helped deliver thousands of album pre-orders via the official Sam Smith store, contributing considerably to the week one sales and the No.1 chart position. The presale window also saw tens of thousands of happy fans secure tickets to the show of their choice.
